Report on the Conference on Emerging Adulthood,
Harvard University, Nov. 3-4, 2003
The first-ever conference on emerging adulthood was a great success. When the conference was originally proposed, we anticipated 60 people, but 140 people attended! It was a very lively day and a half. There were talks by eminent speakers in a wide range of areas pertaining to emerging adulthood. A roundtable session was held the first afternoon, in which each of the 10 speakers led a small-group discussion. There was an excellent evening poster session with presentations from many parts of the world on diverse topics. Many people who attended the conference told me they came away from it energized with new ideas and new colleagues.
In order to disseminate conference proceedings, we have arranged to have audio versions of speakers' talks available soon, and by early next year, we plan to have the posters from the conference posted on the web site as well. So, look here for that information, and for future information and events related to emerging adulthood. Hopefully this will be the beginning of an enduring community of scholars
interested in studying this fascinating and important age period.
