Emerging Scholars Virtual Writing Groups

The SRA Emerging Scholars Committee is excited to announce the formation of a Writing Group that will provide resources and services to help Emerging Scholars develop and improve their professional writing skills. This group will also help to cultivate beneficial networking opportunities among Writing Group participants.

The Emerging Scholars Writing Group will conduct a series of three virtual roundtable discussions throughout the 2013 calendar year. Participating Emerging Scholars will present their work to and receive feedback from a small group of roundtable participants during a 1-hour meeting, which will be conducted using online collaboration tools (e.g., Google Hangout).

The second of these sessions will be held during the week of July 29, 2013. The topic of the second roundtable session is grant preparation.

Interested participants should submit a submission form to the Emerging Scholar Committee at emergingscholars@s-r-a.org by July 12, 2013. If you have any questions pertaining to the Emerging Scholars Writing Group, please contact emergingscholars@s-r-a.org.

Additional Details:

Each roundtable session will be limited to 5 SRA Emerging Scholar member participants. Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and in terms of relevancy to the session topic. Those interested in participating should submit a copy of a work-in-progress writing sample of 2000 words or less at least two weeks before the roundtable session. Notifications regarding acceptance to the roundtable session will be sent one week prior to the session date. The roundtable discussion facilitator, who will be a member of the Emerging Scholars Committee, will provide all meeting participants with copies of the work samples of all discussion participants, and each participant will be expected to review all submitted samples and provide brief feedback in the form of a few bullet or discussion points on each other participant’s work. Feedback must be returned to the meeting facilitator and it will then compiled and uploaded to a shared workspace (Google Drive) no later than 48 hours prior to the start of the roundtable discussion. Roundtable participants will focus comments based on the Reviewer Guidelines included in their review packets.
